Quite possibly the best toy
ever
I'm far too old for this sort of stuff, and yet...It looks the spitting
image of the one in the series, it sounds just like it and it lights up
just like it. If I were a betting man I would say they just use the toy
on the show and save money on the props. Of course it has no
educational value (well...maybe some, it does teach kids about uv light
and all that). I admit, I don't play with it like I am sure kids do, I
just have it as a symbol of how far my geeky obsession with doctor who
really goes. It sits on my windowsill beside my Remembrance Imperial
remote Dalek and my TARDIS. For all to see. And I'm 24. So I'm not even
being eccentric. Just geeky. I love it!
Sonic Screwdriver?
Well, I bought this two years ago, when Chris Eccleston was still on
the packaging - I had to buy the batteries separately, but it was worth
it! I have not changed the batteries since, and it has endured heavy
use and they are only just beginning to fail now! It really is
fantastic! There have been a few versions of the Sonic Screwdriver, the
first (mine) was fairly simple - it came with a little "Doctor Who" pad
and 2 nibs. The second version was the same, albeit with a more
accurate sonic screwdriver - the colour was improved, and the "cracks"
were also more detailed. Version three is the same BUT it comes with
wipe-clean psychic paper instead of the pad (INFINITELY cooler).
A rather fantastic toy, really, for one of any age! (I am a 14-year old
boy and bought one for my friend's 15th birthday, and she loves it!!)
Got one for Yule 2006, and
I love it.
For Yule 2006 I received one of these toys as a gift. It appears to be
the second revision of the Sonic Screwdriver pen, as it has David
Tenant on the packaging and comes with batteries.
It is very well constructed, with nice moulded texturing on the barrel
(which makes it comfortable, if a bit large to write with), a sliding
button that does not move around too readily, so once it's open it
stays open, and good heft. The sound chip's volume is loud yet not
annoyingly so, and the brightness of the UV LED is perfect for the
UV-sensitive ink as well as detecting UV-reactive objects (hint: betta
fish are not UV reactive, but many dishwashing detergents are).
