| Rune stones are from the
German Raunen, meaning "a secret" or "mystery", occult symbols that are
known in many areas of northern Europe. According to one tradition, the
Scandinavian god Odin hung for nine days and nights on the World Tree and
paid with one of his eyes for his knowledge of the Rune Symbols. However, the
rune stones that feature in modern witchcraft may be of more modern origin.
The symbols are sometimes also known as the "alphabet of Honorius."
Rune symbols are used both in divination and magickal workings. There are several types of runes with different origins. A few are the Norse, Scandinavian and Germanic runes. Unlike the Tarot, they are an integral part of the magickal system with its own pantheon, should you care to use it. They can function as an alphabet and are useful in vision questing, dream recall and controlling your environment. Our rune symbols books will allow you to understand the rune symbols and Nordic divination and how to use the rune symbols for magickal purposes.
