Victorian Flower Oracle

This is a Victorian delight
depicting the magic and language of flowers.
This is a gorgeous,
evocative deck of 40 Victorian Flower oracle cards based on the flower-personified
illustrations of famed Victorian artist JJ Grandville, taken from an
original 1847 hand-coloured copy of his "Fleurs Animees". The
Victorians loved flowers and also used bouquets to convey specific
messages through the positioning and types of flowers. According to the
companion book, they had elaborate systems to explain the popular
language of flowers: the red rosebud turned to the left in a bouquet,
meaning “you are pure and lovely”, or wild tansy with the
less-encouraging message, “I declare against you”.
This beautiful Victorian
Flower Oracle kit draws on age-old beliefs about the special magic and
symbolism of flowers.
Every flower is
exquisitely depicted as a woman, and each card is a small work of art.
It is complete with a
charming and informative companion book, which includes:
The
symbolic meaning of each flower; myths and beliefs about flowers;
gardening notes; the history of Grandville illustrations; and
instructions for using the Victorian Flower cards as an oracle. |
